Geoff,
Almost all (if not completely all) stations staff |
| |
their helicopters with their current "ground-based" ENG |
| |
videographers. In some cases it's purely voluntary and works |
| |
on a rotation if everybody wants to fly. In other cases |
| |
flying it's a mandatory part of the job unless you can argue |
| |
a case for severe airsickness or fear of flying. Believe it |
| |
or not, not everyone wants to fly or looks forward to the |
| |
opportunity.
I don't think there is a school where you can |
| |
learn or get certified to do this. Your best bet would be as |
| |
a current videographer at the station. Based on the |
| |
information in your e-mail, I couldn't figure out if |
| |
"photographer" and "videographer" were separate disciplines |
| |
at your station.
Here's a pic for |
| |
you:
http://www.ericlian.com/STS/ch7_takeoff_sts.jpg
I' |
| |
not on the helicopter. I'm outside taking the |
| |
photograph.

-Eric
*****
> I forgot to mention |
| |
that I'm also an ENG Photog.
>
|
